Spirituality is a complex and highly personal phenomenon that plays a key role in Victoria’s Holistic Wellbeing (VHW) method. This method is based on principles that significantly differ from commonly used constructs, emphasizing that no element is placed on a pedestal. All components of the growth process, including the soul, hold significant and complementary meaning.
The contemporary approach to spirituality often associates it with the concept of the soul. In many languages, the word "spirituality" is synonymous with "soul," which is why, in the VHW method, we use the term "soul" instead of "spirituality" as one of the three elements of the triad (body, mind, soul). It is commonly accepted that when the soul is separated from the body, it is referred to as the spirit. Conversely, the term "spirituality" is etymologically related to the word "spirit."
The VHW method promotes the experience of unity between humans and the surrounding world by integrating experiences related to these three elements of the triad. In this way, it treats the soul as a phenomenon embedded in the nature of every individual. Although observations indicate differences in spiritual manifestations among people, the potential for spirituality is inherent in everyone. The goal of the VHW method is to disseminate this understanding so that everyone can develop their innate capabilities.
The VHW method is not an abstract construct. Here are a few examples that support this:
• Spirituality connected to the experience of a bond with the world resonates with American philosopher Ronald Dworkin, who asserts that a person feels a community with the world and a deeper understanding of their existence (Dworkin, R., 2014, Religion Without God).
• French Neo-Thomist Reginald Garrigou-Lagrange believes that spirituality represents a higher form of inner dialogue conducted by an individual with themselves (Garrigou-Lagrange, R., 1998, Three Periods of Inner Life: An Introduction to Life...).
• Spiritual need is linked to the discovery of new spiritual horizons and the potential for personal growth (Wuthnow, R., 1998, pp. 3-12, 142-168, After Heaven: Spirituality in America Since the 1950s, University of California Press, Berkeley).
• Contact with the world is also essential in the concept of spirituality presented by Canadian philosopher John L. Schellenberg, who indicates that transcendence has three dimensions: metaphysical, axiological, and soteriological. In a metaphysical sense, it is the foundation of all things; in an axiological sense, it embodies the highest values; and in a soteriological sense, it relates to the perfection of humanity. He refers to the thesis of this triple transcendence, which achieves different qualitative endowments, as "ultimatism" (Schellenberg, J.L., 2019, pp. 65-70; Schellenberg, J.L., 2020, pp. 173-184, The Argument from Hiddenness: New Challenges to Philosophy for Faith and Evolutionary Religion).
As the concept of the triad develops, the author of the VHW method posed key questions regarding humble curiosity about the world and our limitations in understanding reality. She realized that through the soul, it is possible to transcend cognitive illusions, leading to deeper insights and an exploration of the abyss of consciousness. The soul not only enables the contemplation of the world but also allows for the experience of the fullness of human existence.
All these aspects reinforce our belief that the VHW brand promotes an integrated approach to life that enhances its quality. By harmonizing the body, mind, and spirit, this brand emphasizes that humans serve as a portal to inner transformation. During the daily practices I conduct with clients, they have the opportunity to discover new experiences and strive for a better quality of life, which fosters greater harmony.
The VHW brand is an innovative proposition that not only meets the needs of contemporary individuals but also inspires them to find meaning, balance, and fulfillment in their daily lives.
Blessings,
